Loosely set in the same series as Hoffman's first book: The Thread That Binds the Bones. Takes place in a different town in Oregon, uses the same terminology for magic, some common relatives are mentioned. I don't think you have to read the other book to get full enjoyment from this - I've already read my own copy twice. This would be a good book to sample to see if you like Hoffman.
