Pan 1980 paperback (the British hardcover from Faber was 1978.) 214 pages, 95 pence cover price. Condition is VG to VG+: tight and square; spine has faint line; mild uniform age tanning; line next to spine, light overall wear (see scan.) Stamp on 1st page and page 85 - from the same source as the F&SF magazines I've been selling - no other marks or writing.

Anticipations - edited by Christopher Priest. Pan. There is an American hardcover edition, but no American paperback as far as I know. Only a few have been collected in single-author collections, so some of these are rather hard to find. I particularly recommend the Ian Watson story as one that will make you start to pay attention to this author - not an "easy read," but compelling. An original anthology - all stories new to the 1978 edition. [Plot teasers/summaries are quoted from the back cover, when given...]

"The Very Slow Time Machine" by Ian Watson
"Is That What People Do?" by Robert Sheckley
... [Sheckley's hero finds a gadget that gives him disturbing insight into the private worlds of other people...]
"Amphitheatre" by Bob Shaw
... [An exploration of a newly discovered planet culminates in a classic encounter with an alien carnivore...]
"The Negotiation" by Christopher Priest
"The Greening of the Green" by Harry Harrison
"Mutability" by Thomas M. Disch
"One Afternoon At Utah Beach" by J. G. Ballard
... [German blockhouses provide symbolic monumental gateways into outer space and time...]
"A Chinese Perspective" by Brian W. Aldiss
... [Aldiss sets artificial planetoids against technophobic Peking, a computerized horsocope against yarrow twigs and the I Ching...]
