The Caltraps of Time, by Scottish writer David I. Masson. This is his only collection. About half of these were reprinted in various "Best of" collections. Whether you count him as a "New Wave" author or not - he certainly can be associated with them, judging by which anthogies reprinted his work. The brilliant time travel story "A Two-Timer" is told entirely in language appropriate to 1683, the year from which the inadvertant time traveler is whisked into the future [summary by John Clute.] Story teasers from the back cover: An apocalyptic battle at the edge of the unknown… the deadly fascination of voracious magma… a world where weather expresses itself as mood. (Introduction by Harry Harrison) All stories are from New Worlds - from 1965 to 1968. |
