Serialized with this title in Argosy - 6 parts (weekly) from April 18, 1931 to May 23, 1931. Two hardcovers came out in 1937 - both with the title Call of the Savage. The 1966 Ace paperback has 3 pieces of artwork: a small illustration at top of first page of story - by Jack Gaughan (his initials appear at bottom right, and the style matches.) There is a title-page illustration with signature at bottom right - of which last name "Neill" is clear, and the first initials could be "J" (or "S") and "R". Page 43 has a full-page illustration - unsigned, but possibly by the same artist as that on the title page. I think they might be by John R. Neill (best known for his many illustrations for "OZ" books.) According to Wiki, Neill was known to have done a lot of artwork for Argosy 1930-1931 (when this book was serialized.) | |||
