Brain Twister, by "Mark Philips" (Randall Garrett collaborating with Laurence M. Janifer.) A shorter version was serialized in Astounding as "That Sweet Little Old Lady" September & October 1959. This is the first of 3 "Malone" books. There was a mind-reading spy who could pick the most vital secrets out of the brains of the country's most closely guarded scientists. Agent Kenneth J. Malone gets the task of tracking down some telepaths who could help him hunt the spy. He finds Miss Thompson, a sweet little old white haired lady who can definitely read his mind - the problem is she lives in a mental hospital, and believes she is Elizabeth Tudor, Queen of England. |
