This World is Taboo - a "Med Service/Calhoun" novel by Murray Leinster. Magazine version in Amazing July 1961 as "Pariah Planet." When Calhoun lands on the planet Weald for health inspections, he discovers they are desperately afraid of a "blueskin" plague from the planet Dara - to the point of withholding aid when requested, and an armed enforced quarantine of Dara and nearby planet Orede. A ship full of dead men had recently arrived, and the people of Weald were ready to blame the "blueskins." Calhoun leaves Weald with a stowaway and his own theories of what killed the men on the ship, and heads for Orede and Dara to solve the problem and prevent interplanetary war. |
