As a SF juvenile, this is about on par with Del Rey or Nourse. The wraparound cover by D'Achille is stunning. The wraparound cover of each of the first 2 books display 2/3 of a 3-panel painting. The third book mirror-reverses Undersea Fleet - putting the final third of the "big picture" on the front. | |||
Undersea Quest (co-written with Jack Williamson.) - this is the first of 3 "Jim Eden" books. Cadet James Eden, lastest in a long line of men who had given their lives to the sea, had no reason to suspect that his career was threatened: he looked forward to the day when he would graduate and enter the sub-sea world for which his Academy was named. Suddenly he was caught in a vortex of charges and counter-charges - for some reason, someone was trying to frame him. (And succeeding.) There was worse: on the heels of his expulsion from the Sub-Sea Academy, Jim learned that his uncle, one of the world's most experienced sub-seamen, had mysteriously disappeared while mining uranium at the bottom of Eden Deep. Jim did not believe that Stewart Eden was dead, and determined to enter the vast dome-city of Marinia to trace his uncle. |
