Ezekial Joshua Tubber is not just any prophet: his curses, or hexes, actually seem to take effect. Ed Wonder, a television host, makes the mistake of putting him on national TV- finding to his horror that national exposure doesn't ridicule Tubber, it just makes him more powerful. Tubber cursed the TV media itself, with worldwide effect.

Serialized as Of Godlike Power in Worlds of Tomorrow in 1965 and the first paperback from Belmont had that title. Retitled in 1968 as Earth Unaware. Belmont books were never common, and are really hard to find these days.
