Fred Saberhagen's The First Book of Lost Swords: Woundhealer's Story. In a future set thousands of years after the end of Empire of the East, that world is invaded by the traditional Greek gods, and Vulcan forges twelve Swords of Power and dispersed them throughout the world to watch men scramble. Vulcan's joke was that the swords could kill Gods, too.
Mark (Prince Consort of Tasavalta) and his wife, Princess Kristin, have a seven-year-old son Adrian, who has been blind and racked by seizures from birth. The magic Sword Woundhealer, the Sword of Healing, is said to be held at the White Temple far to the south. Mark is convinced that if he can find Woundhealer, Adrian will be cured. But others steal the Sword first - the evil wizard Burslam and Baron Amintor, enemies of Mark. They hope to gain control of the other Swords in Mark's possession.
