The Shrouded Planet (1957) - a fix-up based on 3 novelets from Astounding (July, August & December 1956.) These are collaborations between Robert Silverberg and Randall Garrett - the "Nidor" series. Silverberg describes the genesis in his afterwords to the 1981/1982 trade-pb & mass-market paperback editions (which fully acknowledge the dual authorship.) A sequel was The Dawning Light, which was serialized in Astounding and also came out from Gnome Press.The 1957 Gnome Press first edtion changed the titles, and added preludes in the form of "240th Cycle" etc. - about 20 pages of new material. When I compared the book text to the magazine versions, I found the first tale to be somewhat modified, and the rest to be pretty much unchanged from the magazine versions.
