The Best Science Fiction Stories of Clifford D. Simak - a collection of 7 stories or novelets. If you are already a fan of Simak, there is nothing much here that you won't already have. But for an introduction to his work - this would be an excellent sample to find out why you should read Simak. Simak at his prime has a somewhat pastoral voice and values, leavened with a quirky sense of humor and a taste for the weird or alien.

(Some story summaries):
"Immigrant" - Every family on Earth has the ambition of sending at least one family member to the golden planet Kimon. Since its discovery, the super-advanced Kimonians won't allow just anyone to settle - even if a man meets the IQ requirements and studies for years, he must take a test that only 1 in a thousand passes. Seldon Bishop succeeds, and finds that once he gets to Kimon one more ultimate test awaits him.
"Crying Jag" - Wilburn, an alien, gets drunk on the sad stories he hears on Earth and by doing so, cures people of their woes.
"All the Traps of Earth" - A 600 year-old robot tries to remain himself, even though he must face the perils of nomadic space life to do so.

3 are from Galaxy, 2 from Astounding, one from Magazine of F&SF (from 1954 to 1960), and were previously collected in Simak's major collections. "New Folk's Home" from Analog (1963) was first collected here.

This collection first appeared in Britian as a hardcover from Faber & Faber (1967.) American editions started with a Doubleday hardcover in 1970, a SFBC reprint in 1971, and Paperback Library did the first paperback in 1972.
