Not Without Sorcery, by Theodore Sturgeon. This is an abridgement containing 8 of 13 stories from the 1948 Prime Press hardcover of his first collection of stories: Without Sorcery (which has never been reprinted in its entirety - all paperback editions have the abridged contents.) Most of these are fantasy - they all sold to John W. Campbell, who was also editor of Unknown. "It" is a classic story of a Frankenstein-like creature spontaneously created from a skeleton and forest mold - (it) still packs a punch.

(Preface by Theodore Sturgeon)
It
Poker Face
Artnan Process
Ether Breather
Butyl and the Breather
Brat
Two Percent Inspiration
Cargo

These originally appeared from 1939 to 1941 - (5) in Astounding and (3) in Unknown. The 5 stories omitted from the 1948 hardcover can be found in other Sturgeon collections (and without much duplication/overlap.) And all of them appear in the (fairly expensive) "recent"/retrospective set from North Atlantic Books.
