A "raisin-pudding" style fix-up of related stories from the Sixties - about the development and colonization of the Asteroid Belt. In this kind of fix-up, the previously published stories are the "raisins" embedded in a backwards-looking narrative that talks about the history these stories came from, and forms a story in its own right (the "pudding.") By my use of such terminology you can probably tell I think the stories by themselves are much better than the framework - "Say It With Flowers" is one of my favorites by Anderson. The framework consists of a prologue, interludes between each story, and an epilogue (these run from 2 pages to 9 pages long.)

3 stories are original to the 1970 Collier edition of this book: "Nothing Succeeds Like Failure," "Ramble With a Gamblin' Man," and "Recuiting Nation." The others appeared in Analog from 1963 to 1965, under the pseudonym of "Winston P. Sanders."
