Evans states in his introduction that one of the reasons the title was changed was to avoid confusion with A Floating City - a previous novel by Verne. A "Fitzroy Edition" - published first in Britain by Arco, and shorty thereafter in U.S.A. by Associated Booksellers (credits page and DJ say "printed in Great Britain" - by Taylor Garnett Evans and Co.) Large books were often split into 2 volumes or abridged by Evans to conform to publisher's length requirements of approx. 190 pages.
