"Fast Times at Fairmont High" is original to the 2001 hardcover, and won the Hugo award for "best novella" in 2002. The rest first appeared from 1965 to 2000 - in Analog (9), IF, New Worlds, Nature,Far Frontiers 3, Stellar 1, Orbit 9, and Threats ...and Other Promises.

The title is somewhat misleading in that it implies that all of Vernor Vinge's short fiction is here. His best work, the novella "True Names" is not included. It was the title piece in a collection of related essays available from the same publisher at the same time [perhaps they didn't want the overlap?]

All 7 stories from Threats ...and Other Promises (1988) are included, as well as the rest of True Names ...and Other Dangers (1987), and several previously uncollected stories. Vernor Vinge is a very good writer from an Analog background. I strongly recommend this book (just not as much as I would a truly complete "Collected Stories.")
