I was surprised at how much this was going for online - apparently pre-movie paperbacks or any hardcover editions are collectible. I could not find this Book Club hardcover listed on isfdb.com, and a web-search including wikipedia only demonstrated that 2 hardcover editions could be found: the first edition from 1981 (different cover), and this one which I presume is from 1988 because of the date below the artist's signature at lower right corner. Spine and title page state "St. Martin's Press" - but there is no price on inside flap, and a probable book club number at lower right corner of otherwise blank back cover (14490.)

Who Censored Roger Rabbit?, by Gary K. Wolf. This is the basis for the 1988 film WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT? - starring Bob Hoskins and Christopher Lloyd. I like the film a lot, but a number of changes were made in creating the movie.

[The back cover copy from a paperback, then the first page blurb]:
CRACK DETECTIVE EDDIE VALIANT TACKLES HIS TOUGHEST CASE:
I found the bungalow and rang the bell. My client answered the door. He was almost my height, close to six feet, but only if you counted his eighteen-inch ears. For eyes he had twin black dots, floating in the center of two oblong white saucers. His white stomach, nose, toes, and palms on a light brown body made him resemble someone who had just walked face first into a freshly painted wall.
"I'm Eddie Valiant, private eye. You the one who called?"
"Yes, I am," he said, extending a fuzzy white paw. "I'm Roger Rabbit."

[the first-page blurb]:
ENTER A WORLD:
where cartoon characters ("toons") live side by side with humans and speak in word-filled balloons. :
MEET:
Roger Rabbit, fuzzy, up-and-coming comic-strip star...
The DeGreasey Brothers, sleazy owners of a cartoon syndicate, who have Roger by the ears...
Jessica Rabbit, Roger's sexy, humanoid-'toon ex-wife, former star of 'toon porn...
Doctor Beaver, 'toon psychiatrist, featured in VD pamphlets...
Sid Sleaze, slimy, porno-comic-strip producer... and a whacky crew of humans, 'toons, and humanoid-'toons...
JOIN:
Eddie Valiant, L. A.'s toughest, third-rate gumshoe, as he tries to solve the murders of Rocco DeGreasey and Roger Rabbit in this wildly original and hilariously spellbinding new mystery... :
WHO CENSORED ROGER RABBIT? :
You'll never read the funny papers in the same way again!
