These originally appeared from 1941 to 1955 (sometimes as by "John Beynon") in STAR SF. 1, The Arkham Sampler, Amazing, Thrilling Wonder Stories, Suspense, New Worlds, Galaxy and Fantastic Universe. The 1956 American collection Tales of Gooseflesh and Laughter is composed of 3 stories from this volume, plus 8 stories from Jizzle (1954) - both of these have no American editiions. A few of these stories appear in other Wyndham collections - but most do not, and are hard to track down these days.

His full name was John Wyndham Parkes Lucas Beynon Harris. Before WWII, he wrote as "John Beynon" or "John Beynon Harris" and was considered an able peer of Edmond Hamilton, Jack Williamson, and other writers of space operas. After WWII, he started writing different sorts of tales and thoughtful disaster novels like The Day of the Triffids - published as "John Wyndham."
