The Night Shapes - Kit Kennedy was a stateless man, unwelcome in any area of the "civilized" world. In the heart of the Congo, Kit had found friends and peace. From the Africans he loved he had learned the deep satisfaction of mutual respect between man and nature. But he was here only on the sufferance of the Belgian authorities. When the Resident Magistrate required him as a guide to a semioffial safari - Kit had to accept, though the purpose of the safari was mysterious and its members an oddly assorted group of people unlikely to have any sane objective in common. Set in the early 1900's, this is a novel of an Africa which could have been.

I have found one source which claims this to be a fix-up of "Serpent's Fetish" & "The Snake-Headed Spectre." If anyone can tell me where these stories originally appeared - please contact me.
