The Gorgon Festival - set in California, somewhat in the future. An ambitious academic discovers a liquid that restores aging bodies to their peak of youthful perfection. The possessor of such a panacea could win untold wealth, the Nobel Prize, and the attentions of many of the world's most attractive women. But someone else has designs on the magic formula, wants to run a separate research and rejuvenation program - and exits with the elixir. The chase that ensues takes us into some of future California's most flamboyantly far-out purlieus before any semblance of sanity is restored. I really like the way Boyd takes an idea and runs with it to some rather strange places...
