The High Place, by James Branch Cabell: another novel from the long series "The Biography of of the Life of Manuel." This one is set in the imaginary country of Poictesme, where Florian de Puysange rescues and marries the enchanted princess Melior, and also brings back the Saint Hoprig, his boyhood idol. As Cabell summarized: "it was Florian's fault that he attempted to introduce beauty and holiness into his daily living... he attempted to combine the incompatible."
