The Worthing Saga (1990) - a sort of omnibus by Orson Scott Card. The reason I say "sort of" is that it is based on a novel (Hot Sleep) and collection (Capitol) that appeared in 1979, each with the subtitle "The Worthington Chronicle" (although this appeared only on the title page for the collection.) In 1983, Card revised Hot Sleep - possibly incorporating some parts of the collection Capitol - and gave it the title The Worthing Chronicle. This "omnibus" includes the revised novel from 1983, plus 6 of the 11 stories/novelets from Capitol (the ones that Card felt were up to his current standards), with a bonus of 3 stories at the end (2 original.) American editions include an afterword by Michael Collins; British editions omit that afterword.

(Introduction by Orson Scott Card)
THE WORTHING CHRONICLE
... Tales of Capitol:
Skipping Stones
Second Chance
Lifeloop
Breaking the Game
Killing Children
What Will We Do Tomorrow?
... Tales from the Forest of Waters:

"Worthing Farm" and "Worthing Inn" are original to the 1990 TOR paperback; the rest first appeared in 1978 or 1979: (3) in Analog, one in Destinies, V1,#2 (January 1979), (2) original to Capitol, and the final story had an earlier version in Eternity SF.
