A hard-to-find title by Lin Carter: Tower at the Edge of Time. Carter wrote both SF and Fantasy, and was also important as an editor of Fantasy - editing Ballantine's Adult Fantasy line in the late Sixties, which revived many important works. Most of his work falls into the "planetary romance" or "sword and sorcery" categories. He often got the deluxe treatment in presentation, to judge by the top-flight artists who did covers for many of his books.
Tower at the Edge of Time - [the back cover copy]: "It was Thane who crossed the abyss of the ages and stood on the very brink of Eternity... who found the secret of the Time Treasure... who saw, and laughed and came back sane from that place beyond the Universe where no man had ever been before him, and where none should ever come again.
