The planet Abba had only been admitted to the society of civilized planets after it had made concessions on its degrading treatment of women, who had previously been considered necessary beasts, not even human. As a result of these concessions, one brilliant woman, Jacinth, had risen to the very top of that strange society, to the Seventh Level. Now Abba needs Jacinth's skills, but there is a murder plot against her. Coyote Jones is called in to intercede, and naturally, gets involved. As a prolog, this includes "For the Sake of Grace" from Magazine of F&SF (1969.) |
