1976 1st Hardcover, Ex-Library no cover / missing cover VG+ to near-Fine
Tight and square (better than most ex-library); first page shows traces where pocket was removed. Library stamp on title page and top page block; no writing - a clean copy. This was issued from publisher without a dustjacket. The library had taped plastic/acetate to the book (in liew of a DJ protector) - which took most of any wear and has been discarded (but there are traces of its removal on endpapers front & back.) / A note about the Gregg Press hardcover editions. Their print runs were low (typically 500 to 700?) and their quality is high: acid free paper, so age-tanning is negligible; the binding is sewn, and the boards are heavier than most. They will last much longer than the original, if there was one. Photo-reprint of 1955 Dell paperback (first edition.) Credits pages notes "Limited by contract to 500 copies." Hardcover appearances are scarce: the 1955 British HC; in an Alfred Hitchcock Presents omnibus (STORIES THAT SCARED EVEN ME - 1967); this Gregg Press edition in 1976; and an Easton Press edition in 1993.
In the town of Santa Mira, Dr. Miles Bennell slowly becomes convinced there is a problem: the townspeople were being transformed into men and women totally devoid of human emotion. They looked and acted like themselves - but were not themselves. Serialized in Colliers in 1954, this was a paperback in 1955, and the basis for the 1956 movie INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS. The movie was re-made in 1978 (same title as before), and a revised version of the book came out in 1978 - with a title matching the movie. There were 2 more film versions: BODY SNATCHERS (1993) and THE INVASION (2007.) |
