Ray Cumming's Beyond the Stars, in its first book appearance. Original magazine appearance was in Argosy All-Story Magazine in 1928. Since I haven't read this - I'll have to quote from the inside blurb: ONE OF THEIR ATOMS - OUR UNIVERSE! "The scene outside my window was a chaos: showers of white sparks were rushing at us. I tried to shout a warning, but instead I laughed with a touch of madness. I realized then that these sparks were really stars - and they were passing through us. I could see their luminous white points beaming within the vehicle as the stream flowed through. These stars were mere electrons and our vehicle comparatively was a puff of vapor." |
