Ramon Felipe San Juan Mario Silvio Enrico Alverez-del Rey (his full name) was one of the major players in SF in the Forties, when most of his short fiction was written. In the Fifties/Sixties he became best known for his juveniles, then later as an editor and reviewer. He married Judy-Lynn Benjamin in 1971. She became a very strong editor for Ballantine - they named their "Del Rey Books" line for her. Lester joined the company in 1977, and edited their SF/Fantasy books in the Eighties.

Lester del Rey's second collection of short stories: Robots and Changelings. Some of these stories have been re-collected in The Best of Lester del Rey, but you'll be hard pressed to find the rest. You will not see copies of this book very often - I consider it one of the harder Del Rey titles to find - since there are no reprints or other editions.

The Pipes of Pan
Little Jimmy
The Coppersmith
No Strings Attached
The Still Waters
Kindness
Stability
The Keepers of the House
Uneasy Lies the Head
The Monster
Into Thy Hands

These stories first appeared from 1939 to 1957 - in Unknown, Astounding, Argosy, If, Magazine of F&SF, New Worlds, Vortex, Fantastic Universe, and Ten Story Fantasy.
